How To Think Positive: Why We Must Take 100% Responsibility.

There seems to be a negative connotation when we suggest taking responsibility. Society appears to have taught us that taking ownership of our problems opens up a door - an opportunity to blame and shame ourselves. As a result, people really struggle to take on responsibility when things aren't going particularly well in their own life, and tend to blame others or society for their own problems.
My intention for this blog is to shift this perceived negative, into an empowering technique to help you uplevel in your life!
I remember when I was first told to take 100% responsibility for what I had created in my life.
At that point my life was very bleak, and hearing that soon meant I began the blame game... blaming myself for the sh!t show I was living. To give you some idea... following redundancy I began ignoring bill letters as I wasn't in a great financial mindset back then, eventually leading to a mountain of debt. I kept blaming my redundancy, interest rates, poor wages etc which got me nowhere fast. I felt powerless - at the mercy of others and the situation I had found myself in.
I thought I was responsible for none of it!
But the thing was... it was societal conditioning fueling the negative meaning I had placed upon what taking responsibility meant - I'm a failure and that it's all my fault. I had literally handed any control I could have over to everything or everyone else.
We're usually taught that responsibility = someone to point the finger at when things turn south.
I wish I knew what I know now... there's actually another positive meaning;
'having the duty to deal with something' - Oxford Dictionary.
We are so empowered when we accept the responsibility for what is showing up in our lives. It means we are able to respond to the conditions of our external environment - we are response-able!
Responsible = Response-able!
Once this golden nugget of wisdom dropped in my mind, I turned my financial situation around after giving myself the grace of time! The amount of debt I had generated was not going away overnight. But once the wheels of transformation were moving, I was at peace.
By simply asking ourselves 'This is my responsibility too... so what can I do about it?' means we can hold on to our internal power, and remain proactive in taking the necessary steps to improve our circumstances, no matter what life throws at us.
Then...
Let's point the finger at ourselves when things start turning north!
Are there areas of your life that you are perhaps not showing 100% responsibility? Perhaps you feel powerless because of an external event or person? What one thing can you do, or have control over, that will improve the situation?
